Go Ahead London PVL302 PJ02 RFX can proudly take the title of the first ever Go Ahead London Bus to go all-over red!
Its been a long time coming now and from May 2009 when Metroline dropped their White and Blue skirt, Go Ahead London were the only company to have their skirt, which I have to say looks quite awful. Now the time is drawing closer to the Olympics almost every firm in London is trying to make a good reputation for themselves, this is the same for London Bus Industry. I was told this back in March but all London operators from October 2011, all London Buses have to be 100% red. So now Go Ahead London face a race against time to ensure that every Bus in their London fleet is 100% red before January 2012. I must congratulate Go Ahead for hanging on that long but a rule is a rule. Comments welcomed.
Looks much better IMO, particularly with the removal of that ghastly black around the lower deck windows and staircase. Hopefully it's going to get roundels.

ReplyDeleteI cant see Go Ahead (or Metroline) for that matter having every bus in their respective fleets painted all red by Jan 2012! That must be close on 1000 buses in 6 months.
ReplyDeleteAlso are there any more updates from Eastleigh and we haven't had any since March 18th?
And also, Interesting to see VP569 in background, this is a Willesden bus and I thought their buses were getting refurb in the midlands somewhere and only Harrow Weald buses getting treated here?
Or worse London United having to repaint the white roof on some of their double deckers, something which has to be very hard, as some double deckers still have Transdev logos (even the one beneath the windscreen), something which should have been removed over 3 months ago.
ReplyDeleteFred, the Willesden VPs are going to Eastleigh and the Harrow Weald VPs only the 03, 04 and 54 are going to Dawson's refurbishment place in Coventry.

This London Central President really looks like a Metroline VP. I must say, it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be :)
ReplyDeleteI think there's some confusion here. The ruling is that all new buses and repaints have to be 100% red from now on. Retrospective painting out of skirts etc is not expected.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand how the new enviro's for route 337 were delivered with the charcoal grey skirt i guess the new enviro's for the 12 and whatever the 89 is getting will be red allover with the new roundel's oh and the buses for the 436 and 453
ReplyDeleteHave to admit... boring red... as you quite rightly say it's shame Go Ahead did not fight it off. The charcoal grey was well presented and looked aftered... looking at some of the tridents which are all over red in the last couple of years they look tired already.
ReplyDeleteIts boring - London is becoming boring - a sea of 100% boring red buses with nothing to separate out the different companies. I say lets go back to the time when each company could paint their buses in whatever livery they wanted.
ReplyDeleteYeah very true but TFL have previous when they were called LONDON TRANSPORT. I'm afraid they don't like innovation I would say standardisation is the keyword here although it's boring
ReplyDeleteThis is quite a shame, I've always felt (and realise its subjective) that the charcoal grey skirt on Go Ahead London's buses was very attractive and set the vehicles apart from the mainstream. All over red desperately needs something to break it up.
ReplyDeleteI agree I like the charcoal skirt with the yellow band, its very smart. Certainly my favourite livery amongst the London operators.
ReplyDeleteNot keen on the all red. Far too boring for my liking. Plus all red buses tend to look tired very quickly. The grey banding has the effect of hiding some of the battle scars/dinks & dents/dirt.
PJ02RFX eventually did get the Grey skirt and the yellow band. I saw it on the 45 today in Brixton. So this bus is not GAL's first all over red :(
ReplyDeleteExcellent news. So much better to have all London's buses in proper all-over red. Shows clearly to people from outside London that the each route is part of a fully integrated network, and encourages tourists out to the suburbs and so on.
